Hailing from the woods of northern Maryland, I consider
myself a wildlife artist with a slight interest in nautical matters and the
application of humor.
Having graduated from Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts
(Now Art Institute of York, PA) in 1992 I set upon a Graphic Design career. I worked
in sign making, publications, corporate design and finally settled into a
production role in 1999. I have since worked as a photo manipulator, Mac
technician, support manager, prepress manager and currently work as a
production supervisor in a corporate marketing department.
Though I spent all those years doodling and sketching, I
never took my talent seriously. By chance, in 2009 I was offered an opportunity
to put ink on paper for a profit and I have never looked back. Each day I spend
a few hours honing my talent, learning new techniques and growing as a humble artist.
My true passion is pen and ink on paper. I utilize many
tools, but prefer using Sakura Micron pens over the standard Rapidograph contraptions.
Over the years I have also come to realize that graduating from drawing paper
to watercolor board was a better choice, not only for the more durable substrate
but also for better control of the ink I
lay down. I do sometimes add color to my pieces using pens, watercolor paints or
colored pencils.
Working in production and having a slew of contacts in the
printing industry has led me to produce the best quality prints and cards of my
work. I limit my signed and numbered prints to a set of 150 for most of my work.
I print all reproductions on FSC certified paper (environmental chain of custody)
and even print all my card sets with a 100% wind power offset printer.
Finally, the ink I lay on paper each day is a direct
reflection of my hopelessly scattered mind. Hopefully you will not hold it against
me. I have noticed though, that my talent continues to grow each day. I
attribute this to my friends, my fans and most importantly my wonderful wife
and 3 daughters.
